14.February.2012Australia and Korea lend helping hand
Donation by Australia now amounts $2.3 million after an initial $500,000 was given to the Fiji Red Cross Society. The latest assistance is expected to help replenish UNICEF and WHO emergency supplies to 4,400 students and teachers, 30 farmers who support exporters and over 3,000 people in the Western division affected by the floods.
Meanwhile the Korean government yesterday handed over $85,000 worth of food items to the Fiji government to be distributed to the affected communities. The Korean envoy to Fiji Cheong Hae – Wook says the relief food is a token of Korea’s goodwill to help people overcome their difficulties and return to normal life. Items handed over include 4,000 bags of 5kilograms flour, 2,000 cartons of instant noodles and 200 cartons of biscuits.
The Fiji Government says the contributions will go a long way in the relief efforts to assist those affected by the flood.
