Embassy Visit: Ageo City Nishi Junior High School Students, Saitama PrefectureOn 16 November 2011, a group of 11 (eleven) students and 2 (two) teachers from Ageo City Nishi High School, Saitama Prefecture visited the Embassy for the purpose of international exchanges as well as getting to know more about Fiji. This is a programme of visits from schools all over Japan, which is arranged with the Embassy to also promote Fiji as a tourist destination, for learning English as a second language and for deepening people to people relations between Fiji and Japan. The students were given lectures covering Fiji`s culture, custom, tourism and school system. A question and answer session on Fiji usually follow the lectures and it attracts lively exchanges, and shows how keenly interested most of the students who come on this exchange visit are in learning about a new country, its culture and people. One of the core goals of these exchange visits is to encourage Japanese students to attend High Schools in Fiji as private students from Japan which from their perspectives will enhance direct access and admission to universities in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. The Embassy remains optimistic of strengthening relations with schools in Japan as part of our efforts to build up people to people contacts with Japan.
