Courtesy call on Mr Mikio Shimoji, Member of the House of Representatives from the Okinawa Constituency - 11 November, 2011

The Ambassador on Friday 11 November, 2011 called on Hon Mr Mikio Shimoji, the Member of the House of Representatives from the Okinawa Constituency at the Okinawa Constituency Office, Tokyo. The meetig was convened at the request of the Embassy to brief Hon Mr Shimoji on the outcomes of the Ambassador's visit to Okinawa in September 2011 for consulations with the Governor Okinawa Prefecture, the Okinawa Chamber of Commerce and representatives of the Okinawa busuiness community including consultatiuons with represenatives of the Okinawa Sugar Industry. The meeting was also convened to further discuss potentials for increased trade & investement exchanges between Fiji and Okinawa as a result of increase interests on Fiji from various business sectors in Okinawa.

A brief on the recent visit to Fiji from the Okinawa Water Works Sector and the proposed visit to Fiji by representatives of companies from the Okinawa Agro Sector was also provided. Exchanges  heard of other promising sectors for investment in Fiji by Okinawa investors. This is based on similarities in the economies of Okinawa and Fiji and the major driving industries of our economies. The Embassy will further explore with stakeholders in Okinawa added sectors for investement as suggested by the Hon Member for the Okinawa Constituency.

Mr Shimoji affirmed the support of his constituency towards in itiatives to strengthen trade & economic cooperation and people to people exchanges between Fiji and Okinawa.
