Fiji’s Foreign Policy & Diplomatic Practice Course, Suva, Fiji – (17 – 21 October, 2011)
The Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Practice Course jointly sponsored by the Public Service Commission [PSC], Fiji and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation [MFAIC] was held in Suva from 17 to 21 October 2011. The course was developed and facilitated by Ambassador Isikeli Mataitoga as part of the effort of the Fiji Government to upscale the knowledge and skill level of senior civil servants who may be selected for diplomatic service. With the assistance of Madame Venina Mataitoga, a qualified nursing educator, a set of course notes was prepared by Ambassador Mataitoga which addresses the particular need for Fiji’s diplomatic service.
The course is held as a selection process for future appointments to the Diplomatic service and also for Desk Officer Positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Relations. Apart form Ambassador Mataitoga guest lecturers from the Diplomatic Missions resident in Fiji were invited to speak on issues of bilateral relations between their respective countries and Fiji. Former Ambassadors and senior officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also invited to participate in panel discussion on what they see as the challenges that Fiji Diplomatic Service, may face in future.
