Farm Visits with AGROORGA Co Ltd, Okinawa: Potentials for Investment in Fiji’s Agriculture Sector
Embassy officials led by the Ambassador visited selected farms in Okinawa on Saturday 3rd September 2011. The visit was organised by AGROORGA Co Ltd of Okinawa. This company has been importing Fiji papaya and noni juice since 1998 to supplement its supply to major super market chains in Japan. The Ambassador noted that the high agriculture production in Okinawa is a direct result of the advanced technology adopted during all phases of cultivation and includes crop protection facilities from hurricane force wind. The visit is also based on the increased interest from companies in Okinawa for the importation of selected tropical fruits and vegetables from Fiji with strong intentions to farm these commodities in Fiji using their technology and expertise given Fiji’s clean environment and natural conditions for cultivation of these crops. These companies have been encouraged to visit Fiji in November, 2011 when a Trade & Investment Mission from Okinawa will visit Fiji.
The visit to Okinawa by the Ambassador was also combined with meetings and interactions with Fiji nationals studying and working in Okinawa.
