President of the Republic of Fiji HE Ratu Epeli Nailatikau visits Tokyo : Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Madam Kikuta pays courtesy call on the President

The President of The Republic of Fiji HE Ratu Epeli Nailatikau is currently in Tokyo, Japan to visit and meet with the staff at the Fiji Mission. Arriving in Tokyo on Monday 20 June, the President and Delegation was met on arrival by HE Ambassador Isikeli Mataitoga and MOFA Tokyo officials at Narita Airport. The Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs responsible for the Oceania and Pacific Division, Madam Makiko Kikuta paid a courtesy call on the President HE Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at the ANA Intercontinental Hotel, Tokyo today 21 June 2011. The President once again conveyed the condolences and the feelings of the people and the Government of Fiji to the Government of Japan for the sad loss of lives during the 11th March Great Tohoku Earthquake. The President expressed confidence that Japan’s renowned solidarity and history of recovery during such calamities will enhance recovery efforts in areas affected by the Earthquake and the ensuing Tsunami.

Vice Minister Madam Kikuta whilst acknowledging Fiji’s message of sympathy received at the Japan Embassy in Suva noted with appreciation efforts by the Embassy of the Republic of Fiji in Tokyo in furthering Fiji’s offer of Humanitarian Assistance to Japan enabling selected high school and university students directly affected by the 11th March disaster to study in Fiji for one year whilst the situation in Japan stabilises. A brief outlook on Fiji’s Roadmap to the 2014 Elections and in particular the process and progress on major reforms pursued by the Fiji Government was also heard at the exchanges. Vice Minister Kikuta was accompanied by the Director Pacific Affairs Division at MOFA Tokyo Mr Iida.
