Fiji Day 2010: 40th Anniversary of Fiji’s Independence
H.E Mr Isikeli Mataitoga and Mrs Mataitoga hosted the 2010 Fiji Day Celebrations at a reception held on Friday 8th October, 2010 at the Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu. The 2010 Fiji Day Celebration in Japan is a collaborated effort of the Fiji Embassy in Tokyo and the Japan/Fiji Friendship Society. Close to 200 guests attended the celebration including senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, Members of the Diplomatic Community in Tokyo, Businessmen and women dealing with the Fiji market, Tourism stakeholders, Investors, Friends of Fiji in Japan and members of the Fiji community in Tokyo. The Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan, Madam Makiko Kikuta was also in attendance and gave an address on behalf of the Government of Japan.
This year 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of our independence. It also marks 40 years of formal diplomatic relations with the Government of Japan. The Ambassador in his address thanked the Government and people of Japan for their support and generous assistance over the last 40 years. The Chairman of the Fiji/Japan Friendship Society and CEO of Tokyu Bunkamura Inc, Mr Makoto Watanabe in his address highlighted the historical aspects of relations with Fiji.
