Strengthening Japan-Pacific Island Countries Partnership

A Public Symposium hosted by the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan was held in Tokyo on 13 September, 2010 under the theme ‘Strengthening Japan-Pacific Island Countries Partnership’. Japan and Pacific Island counties have historically maintained close bilateral relations based on historical connections and active economic support. The symposium allowed for constructive and meaningful exchanges on policies aimed at strengthening this partnership between Japan and Pacific Island countries. Panellists included the Deputy Secretary General of PIF Mr Feleti Teo, Dr Biman Prasad of the University of the South Pacific, Mr Suka Mangisi of MOFA Tonga, HE Jonh Fritz (FSM Ambassador to Japan) and senior officials from the Oceania Division, MOFA Tokyo.
