The devastations caused by Hurricane Tomas in March, 2010 throughout Fiji has affected thousands of people. The cost of damages released by the National Disaster Management Office has been estimated to be $76 million and rising. The worst affected is the Agriculture sector with close to $49 million worth of damage in the northern part of Fiji. There have been noted damages as well in the Education and Health sectors particularly in areas directly hit by the hurricane. Victims of this hurricane are in dire need of food supplies, clothing, building materials, seedlings for crops and other items. Many homes in the Northern and Eastern parts of Fiji have either been badly damaged or destroyed.

The Fiji Embassy Tokyo is therefore appealing to the Fiji community in Japan, friends of Fiji and business houses for financial help. All funds collected will be sent to the Prime Ministers Relief Fund.
